New Here?

Where We Came From

The story of our congregation began in the fall of 2025, born out of a shared desire among a small group of families to see a robust, historically rooted expression of the Christian faith established here at MCAS Iwakuni. We recognized a profound need for a church that is unapologetically Reformed, Liturgical, and Covenantal—a place where the sovereignty of God is proclaimed, the beauty of historic worship is practiced, and the promises of God to our families are cherished.

As a new church plant, we are more than just a weekly gathering; we are a growing community of believers dedicated to the "Crown Rights of King Jesus" in every area of life. Whether you are a military member stationed here, a retiree, or a civilian family serving the installation, we seek to be a spiritual home that offers the stability of ancient truth in an ever-changing world.

What We’re About

Generational, Family-Integrated Worship

At Ekklesia Iwakuni, we do not believe the church should be segregated by age. We are a family-integrated congregation, meaning that from the youngest to the oldest, we stay together in the assembly. We believe it is vital for our children to hear the prayers of the saints and the preaching of the Word alongside their parents, being trained in the paideia of the Lord from their earliest days.

A Robust Supernatural Worldview

We believe that the victory of Jesus Christ is not limited to the "spiritual" corner of a man’s heart, but extends to the entire cosmos, both visible and invisible. Scripture makes it clear that we do not wrestle merely against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, and the spiritual forces of wickedness that have long sought to hold the nations in bondage. We acknowledge the historical reality of the fall of the heavenly host, but we herald the even greater reality of the Resurrection. By His death and rising, Christ has disarmed the demonic rulers, shamed them publicly, and is currently reclaiming every nation as His rightful inheritance.

Covenantal Discipline & Total Lordship

Life in the military is defined by order and mission; we believe the Christian life is no different. We emphasize a "Total Lordship" approach, where being a Christian isn't a Sunday-only affair. It informs how we work, how we educate our children, and how we serve our neighbors on the installation. We believe that every vocation is a calling from God to be executed with excellence for His glory.

Where We’re Going

An Optimistic Future

We are not a people of retreat or despair. Because we believe in the certain victory of Christ in history, we view our time here at MCAS Iwakuni through a lens of hope. We believe that the Gospel is transforming the world, and we labor in our daily duties with the joyful expectation that the knowledge of the Lord will one day cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.

Rooting Families for Global Mission

Being stationed at MCAS Iwakuni offers a unique opportunity for high-stakes discipleship. We understand the transient nature of military life, which is why our goal is to root families in the deep soil of reformed liturgy and covenantal theology while they are here. Where we are going is wherever the Lord sends our families next—equipping them to be faithful, courageous ambassadors of the Kingdom and to plant seeds of reformation at their next duty station and beyond.

Establishing a Lasting Witness

We are laboring to see a permanent, self-sustaining reformed witness established in this region. We look forward to seeing the "godly seed" of our families grow into the next generation of leaders, officers, and churchmen who love the Lord and walk in His ways. Our eyes are on the long-term work of building a legacy of faithfulness that outlasts our time on this installation.

Join The Work

We invite you to join us as we continue to lay the foundations for a church that honors the past, serves the present, and builds for the future. Planting a church in a military environment like MCAS Iwakuni is a unique calling that requires both the steadfastness of ancient tradition and the bold energy of a new mission. We are looking for families and individuals who are not content with a passive faith, but who desire to be active builders in the Kingdom of God.

There are several ways to lock arms with us in this endeavor:

  • Worship With Us: The center of our life together is the Lord’s Day. Come experience the beauty of a historic, liturgical service and the warmth of a family-integrated community. Whether you are well-versed in Reformed theology or simply seeking a church that takes the Word of God seriously, there is a seat for you at our table.

  • Invest in the Next Generation: As we build our "paideia" and support Christian education, we need those who are committed to discipling the youth of this base—training them to be the future leaders, fathers, and mothers who will carry the Gospel forward.

  • Exercise Your Vocation: We believe that your work on the flight line, in the office, or in the home is a platform for the Lordship of Christ. We seek to build a network of believers who encourage one another to execute their military and professional duties with a level of excellence that points to the King.

  • Pray for Reformation: We are dependent on the sovereign grace of God. We ask that you join us in praying for a spiritual awakening at Iwakuni—that hearts would be turned to Christ, that families would be strengthened, and that our light would shine brightly across this installation.

The work is significant, the mission is clear, and the promise of victory is certain. If you are ready to move beyond the status quo and help establish a lasting legacy of faithfulness in Japan, we welcome you to help us build.
